If you can handle basic home repairs, you should be able to troubleshoot and fix the problem yourself.
This blog post discusses the most common reasons why the issue appears and provides effective troubleshooting steps to eliminate the problem.
Why Won’t your Maytag Washer Start and Just Beeps?
When the Maytag washer doesn’t start but beeps, it produces an audible sound to alert you that something is wrong. Usually, it happens if you don’t open or close the door properly for at least 3 cycles.
One way or another, you must first identify the root of the Maytag bravos washer problems.
1. Power supply issue
The power supply is the first to check when the Maytag washer won’t start. The washing machine might be plugged in, but it needs more power. The outlet might be faulty or overloaded. Or the reason could be the tripped circuit breaker.
You must ensure a sufficient power supply to start the wash cycle.
2. Broken timer
The Maytag washing machine is made up of timers to control the washing and spinning functions of the machine. The timer advances the washer through cycles until the cycle is complete.
Besides, the washer timer maintains the water level in the tub and adds more water to compensate for the water lost due to drainage and evaporation.
In multiple-cycle washing machines, the timer consists of gears and springs that can break. So if any of them breaks, the washer will advance through some cycles, but not all of them. Or it won’t turn on at all, resulting in the Maytag washer stuck on beeping.
3. Faulty motor
If the Maytag washer won’t start, but you hear the motor humming, it’s a sign your washer needs a ride to the repair shop. There most common causes for a humming motor are a buildup of calcium deposits or a buildup of lint 一, which are not worth fixing at home.
Besides, the bearings or pumps might have worn out if you’ve been using the Maytag bravos washer for a while.
4. Turned on the control lock
There is a control lock feature to prevent you from using the Maytag washer when it is plugged in. You can activate it by pressing the door Lock/Unlock button or the Start button and holding it for three or more seconds.
The control lock feature locks all functions and prevents accidental start. So the washer might not start.
5. Defective control board
Sometimes the Maytag washers’ control board or display board is defective. It is on the inside top of the washer, behind the panel, with lighted buttons. If the buttons are not responding when pressed, the board is defective.
Some buttons might work, while others won’t work at all. And as a result, your washer won’t start.
6. Faulty lid switch
The lid switch is a mechanism that prevents your washer from turning on when the lid is not in place. It is usually located near the access door and could be called a “door switch” or a “kick plate switch” in the user manual.
If the lid switch is damaged or broken, the Maytag washer beeps.
How to Fix a Maytag Washer that Won’t Start but Just Beeps
Regardless of why the Maytag washer won’t start 一, tripped circuit breaker, broken door switch, or faulty control panel, you need to find a solution.
While some issues require simple remedies, others might need you to replace an internal component.
1. Check the power supply.
To test if there is enough power supply for your washer, plug another appliance (a lamp or your cellphone) into the same outlet your washer is plugged into to ensure the voltage is adequate. A multimeter can also be used to check this.
If the outlet is faulty, it may be necessary to replace it. Check the circuit breaker if the problem is within the washer. Please switch it on, wait 5 seconds, and then switch it off.
2. Check the “Start” button.
Sometimes, the reason the Maytag washer doesn’t start might be as simple as a stuck “Start” button. If you need to repair the start button, apply light pressure to the surrounding areas. You can also tap the areas around the button.
This will help dislodge any foreign materials stuck between the button and make it start functioning properly again.
3. Check the control button.
If the control lock is enabled, the washer won’t be able to start the cycle. So to disable this feature, press the lid lock for about three seconds and hold down the start button until the light on the lock goes off.
If it doesn’t work, press and hold the ‘Delay” or “Delay Extra Rinse” buttons for about 10 seconds.
4. Fix the timer
Repairing any washing machine component requires a lot of experience and knowledge. So, even if one component of the timer is broken, you will need to replace an entire assembly.
The washer repair is time-consuming. That’s why you need a professional appliance repair.
However, you can set a timer. Locate the knob on the control panel and turn it to correct the time. Once the timer is set correctly, the Maytag bravos xl washer should start.
5. Repair the motor
Most washer motors are installed near the bottom of the tub area. Resetting the motor is the first thing you need to do if the motor is an issue. For that, unplug the power cord and plug it back in.
If it doesn’t help, check if anything is blocking the spinning blades and remove whatever is stuck before the wash cycle.
If it still doesn’t help, you need to access the motor with the multimeter. You need to replace it or call Maytag customer service if it shows no continuity.
6. Check the lid switch.
Remove any clothing from the washer to check the door or lid switch, and look for a small plastic tab. This tab could sometimes break off and get stuck in the door hinge so the cycle won’t start.
Use a flat screwdriver to remove this plastic tab from the washer door hinge.
On the other hand, you can check if the lid is not broken by closing the lid. If you don’t hear a click, the lid is responsible for your Maytag washer not starting. It would be best if you replaced it.
7. Check washer settings
You need to check a few settings when the Maytag washer won’t start. If a Delay Start is activated, make sure it doesn’t occupy the time you want your cycle to run.
Besides, check if the wash load setting is selected correctly. Your washer will display an error code if it is not. Select “Adjust cycles” from the main menu to change this setting.
Once you select a different cycle, run the diagnostic test from the control panel. Refer to your owner’s manual for more troubleshooting steps regarding the load settings.
8. Check the control board
Unplug the washer and remove the screws that hold the control panel in place to gain access to the user control board. Check for continuity on all wires with a multimeter. Examine the cables to ensure they are not burned through.
A new user control board is required if there is no continuity or the wire is burned out.
9. Reset your washer
If none of those mentioned above solutions help, and your Maytag bravo washer still won’t start but beeps, you need a hard reset. But resort to this solution only at last.
To put your washer back into operation, unplug the washer first, then press and hold the Power/Start button for about 5 seconds.
After that, hold the Play/Pause button simultaneously and plug the machine back in, pressing the Power button to restart. The beeping sound should go away, and the wash cycle should start.
